5 of the Best Breakfasts Around

If you’re like me, breakfast is your favorite meal of the day. There’s just something about waking up, getting ready, and meeting friends or family for a delicious breakfast that starts your day off right. Here are a few worth waking up for.

Casey’s

When a menu features a dish called “Ice Cream for Breakfast,” it gets our attention! The concoction features French toast, berry syrup, fresh fruit, powdered sugar, and, you guessed it - vanilla ice cream. Chef Alex Casey, who was raised in Fredericksburg, uses local produce and meat to blend the best of breakfast and lunch into a sweet and savory menu we love. 622 Kenmore Ave, Fredericksburg

Tito’s Diner

Breakfast comes with a blast from the past at Tito’s. The 1950s-inspired restaurant has perfected their vintage ambiance and all-day breakfast menu. From omelets made with farm fresh eggs to their homemade pancakes, waffles, and french toast - there’s so much to choose from. Tito’s menu even offers both heart-healthy and vegetarian options for diners! I had my eye on their stuffed french toast - custard or Nutella filling topped with fresh fruit. Yum! The retro vibes and large breakfast selection are picture-perfect. 1695 Carl D Silver Pkwy, Fredericksburg

Grounds Bistro & Cafe

Did someone say mimosas? As in, single-serving mimosas and mimosa flights?! The flight at Grounds Bistro consists of four mimosas with your choice of seasonal juices. Pair that with one (or two) of their many delicious breakfast items and you’ve got the brunch of our dreams. The Garbage Bowl has it all - tator tots, chorizo, 2 eggs and scallions, all covered in gravy. What a burst of flavors all in one bite. 25 Apricot St, Stafford

Mason-Dixon Cafe

This downtown eatery bills itself as the place “where the locals REALLY eat,” and it’s not hard to see why — especially given its all-day, made-from-scratch breakfast, a specialty of local chef/owner Kelly Hunt. Enjoy a taste of the South with shrimp and grits or chicken and waffles. There’s also a keto-friendly breakfast menu with delicious options. Bonus: You can bring your pup along for the fun, using the cafe’s outdoor seating area. 2100 Princess Anne St, Fredericksburg

Mercantile

Mercantile’s co-founder and executive chef, Joy Crump, competed on Top Chef, and we think its brunch — offered until 3pm each day — is top-notch. The ever-evolving menu offers delicious, seasonal breakfast items. This past winter featured gems such as New Orleans-style beignets and a cranberry jam-filled bombolini. Coffee lovers, stay awhile: You’ll sip unlimited dark roast drip coffee for a mere $4. 900 Princess Anne St, Fredericksburg
